Description
The Latino Leadership Conference is a premier leadership development event. This annual gathering of entrepreneurs, executives, innovators, educators, policymakers and outstanding students is designed to foster change and opportunity within the Latino community. The National Latino Leaders Awards highlights individuals who have achieved success in their careers while paving the way for other Latinos to advance in the corporate arena. The event will consist of workshops, panels, keynotes, and two award recognitions. Topics include our Latinas in Leadership Program, Covid-19, Colorism, Immigration, LGBTQ+, ERGs, Latinxs and Entrepreneurship, and more. This year's theme is Defining Transformational Leadership: Latinos That Inspire, Motivate & Influence and you can view details about our sessions in the attached agenda.
Keynote Speakers
Karen Hoyos is a Global Transformational Leader, Celebrity Coach, Coach of Coaches, International Speaker, and successful Entrepreneur. With over 40 thousand graduates of her seminars worldwide, Karen Hoyos personally coaches Hollywood celebrities, athletes, politicians, entrepreneurs, and other coaches. She has an honorary PhD in Psychology and Coaching Mastery from Logos International University of Florida for her distinguished international transformational work. Karen is often featured as an expert guest on networks such as NBC, E! Entertainment Television, CNN, Univision, and Telemundo.
In March 2019, Karen’s book, Purpose: The Ultimate Quest was published. Karen Hoyos was chosen as one of the U.S. seven most inspiring women, second to singer Shakira by international magazine “Siempre Mujer”. A 2018 alumna of the Schusterman Reality program, Karen embarked on humanitarian missions with the United Nations (UN) and organizations in America and Africa. A Keynote Speaker on many prestigious stages including Carnegie Hall and Harvard University, she is sought to awaken, refresh, and transform millions of lives around the world.
Lili is an award-winning entrepreneur, cultural intelligence® expert and television business commentator known for her ability to activate the power of data and culture as a business advantage. As an immigrant from Colombia, who came to U.S. at the age of 17 without speaking English, she embodies the American Dream going from corporate executive turned entrepreneur. After a successful corporate career, including a 10-year tenure at Johnson & Johnson, where she served as Global Director of Marketing Services in the Pharma sector, pioneered enterprise wide multicultural marketing strategies, and co-founded the Hispanic employee group “HOLA”, Lili co-founded the marketing agency CIEN+ and the market
research tech CulturIntel. With offices in the U.S. and Latin America, her firm offers A.I. powered research, strategy consulting and marketing solutions to help leaders successfully drive inclusive growth and impact with diverse market segments. Some of her clients include Google, GSK, Kellogg’s, Kroger, Merck, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Prudential, among other Fortune 100’s. She is a regular independent TV commentator seen on Fox News, Fox Business and CNN en Español.
Lili is also one of only 2.6% of Latinos serving on a Fortune 500+ public board, as an independent director at Zumiez (NASDAQ: ZUMZ). She also serves on the boards of AUA Private Equity Partners, The National YMCA USA, Harvard Women's Leadership Board and as Chairwoman of the FRIENDS of the National American Latino Museum. She is also a member of The World Economic Forum as a selected Young Global Leader. Some of her recognitions include 2021 Top 10 Pioneering Women in Business, 2021/ 2020 Top 100 Most Influential Latinas by Latino Leaders, Top 10 Innovation Catalyst by Medical Media & Marketing (MM&M), Silicon Valley Visionary, U.S. Hispanic Businessperson of the Year by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, PRWeek’s Top 50 Most Influential in Healthcare, Top 100 Most Powerful Women of NY, among others. Lili holds a degree in Business Administration from Southwestern Adventist University, an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado and an executive degree from the Harvard Kennedy School in Global Leadership and Public Policy. She is married to entrepreneur and former NFL football player Chris Valletta and has two sons.
Noel J. Cárdenas is the Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Hermann Southeast and Pearland Hospitals in Houston, TX. A combat veteran who served more than 30 years with the Texas National Guard and the United States Army, he retired at the rank of Colonel. While on active duty, he served in multiple healthcare leadership positions, including Battalion and Hospital Command. Two Legion of Merits and three Bronze stars are among his numerous recognitions.
Cárdenas has over 35 years of healthcare leadership experience and is board certified in healthcare management through the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He has served as the Army Regent for the ACHE, a Board Member for the National Forum for Latino Healthcare Executives and was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Governors of the ACHE. He is notably the only Latino member on the Board.
Passionate about mentorship and coaching, Cárdenas credits two mentors – both senior Latino healthcare executives - for their encouragement and support during key moments in his career. Aware that Latinos, nationally, make up only a small percentage of senior healthcare executives, Cárdenas hopes his work as a mentor will help inspire others to move into these leadership positions.
Married for 32 years, Cárdenas and his wife, Cristi, reside in Houston. They have three children: Andrew, a Physical Therapist in Frisco, TX Kristian, a student of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University and Noah, a Project Engineer with the Hanover Company in Charlotte, NC.
Tony Plana recently starred as Ignacio Suarez, the widowed father to America Ferrera’s Ugly Betty, in ABC’s landmark, groundbreaking hit series for which he received the 2006 Golden Satellite Award from the International Press Academy, an Imagen Award, and an Alma Award. Ugly Betty was the first Spanish speaking series to be adapted to English for a major American network and received the highest ratings and the most critical acclaim of any Latino-based show in the history of television, most notably 11 Emmy nominations and a Golden Glove Award for best comedy. Previously, he also starred in Showtime’s original series, Resurrection Boulevard, and was nominated for two Alma Awards for best actor. Resurrection Boulevard was the first series to be produced, written, directed and starring Latinos, and the most awarded series in Showtime’s history including an Alma Award for the best television series of 2002. Besides recurring roles on Alpha House, Madam Secretary, Jane the Virgin, Cristela, Motive, The Fosters, and the CW’s newest hit, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, his latest television features are Meddling Mom for Hallmark Movie Channel with Sonia Braga and The Jodi Arias Story for Lifetime where he plays the renowned prosecutor Juan Martinez.
He has directed two feature film comedies, A Million to Juan with Paul Rodriguez and The Princess and the Barrio Boy, the first Latino family film to be produced by Showtime, starring academy award nominee Edward James Olmos and Maria Conchita Alonso. The film received two 2001 Alma Award nominations for Best Made for Television Movie and Best Ensemble Acting and won the 2001 Imagen Award for Best Made for Television Movie.
Plana is the co-founder and Executive Artistic Director of the EastLA Classic Theatre (ECT), a group comprised of multicultural, classically trained theatre professionals. For the past 18 years, the EastLA Classic Theatre has been dedicated to serving economically challenged communities through educational outreach programs for primary and secondary schools. Through the EastLA Classic Theatre, Plana has challenged the boundaries of the teaching and learning of language through an innovative approach called Language in Play (LIP). Working directly with language arts teachers, LIP utilizes the performing arts to impact literacy skills in academically at risk and bi-lingual students.

The Dr. Héctor P. García Award is the National Latino Leadership Conference's Legacy award, celebrating the dedicated service and accomplishments of Dr. Héctor P. García (bio here), a physician, military veteran, and advocate for the rights of Latinos in the US.

Born and raised in a small barrio in Laredo, Texas, Consuelo Kickbusch overcame poverty, discrimination, and illiteracy to become a successful community leader. Lacking material wealth, Consuelo’s immigrant parents taught her to value her culture, traditions, values and faith.
Throughout her education at Hardin Simmons University and rise to highest- ranking Hispanic woman in the Combat Support Field of the U.S. Army, she embodied their invaluable lessons, eventually retiring to fulfill her mother’s dying wish –that she return to her roots and become a community leader. She founded Educational Achievement Services, Inc. maintaining a strong dedication to saving the youth of America by mentoring students and parents across the United States. In addition to her work with American youth, Consuelo reaches audiences in corporate, professional, non-profit and multicultural markets.
Proud mother of five daughters, and grandmother of 5 grandchildren, Consuelo resides in Nevada with her husband, David.
